DESCRIPTION OF THIS CASE:
At 6:44 PM on 26 November 2010, Yara Gambirasio left the Italy sport centre alone, but never reached her home. On February 26, 2011, her body was discovered.The body was found by chance, when a man was trying his airplane model and the model fell, near Yara's body. Yara's corpse is in the state of decomposition. Some superficial cuts were shown on the body made by a pointed object and a large wound was found on the head. She died as she was bleeding during a cold winter, without any food and water. There was no clear sign of sexual assault, but DNA traces over the upper part of her leggings and her intimate clothing as well.

INVESTIGATION DATE AND TIME:
1. A missing person's complaint was filed on November 26, 2010.
2. On February 26, 2011, Yara's body was discovered.
3. On June 16, 2016, Massimo Bossetti was taken into custody.
INVESTIGATING OFFICER (I.O): Letizia Ruggeri, was the chief investigator of this case.
INVESTIGATION SUMMARY:
➔ Mohammed fikri was arrested because of the mistranslated comment.
➔ A male DNA was taken from the victim's underwear. About 22,000 DNA profiles were analysed and compared. They referred to it as Unknown 1.
➔ The first person who had a trace of DNA that had much in common with Unknown 1 was a young man called Damiano Guerinoni, who was related in some ways to Unknown 1.
➔ They did research on his family tree and found a DNA that matched with unknown 1.
NOTE: This case was known as the most expensive man hunt in Italy.
EVIDENCE:
1. Black Jacket and Jeans
2. Yara’s SIM card and Battery.
3. Two DNA samples from her body.
4. A male DNA was found on her innerwear using a 3D Scanner.
CONCLUSION:
On 16 June 2014, an Italian bricklayer living and working in the area, Massimo Giuseppe Bossetti, was arrested and accused of being the murderer, by virtue of his DNA matching "Unknown 1"'s.
MEDICOLEGAL ASPECTS:
Massimo Giuseppe Bossetti was arrested because his DNA matched the Unknown 1 found on Yara's body. The major lead in this case was the DNA evidence that was found using the 3D scanner.
AUTOPSY FINDINGS:
1. There is no sign of rape.
2. There is a trace amount of lime and iron in her lungs.
3. Fibre materials used for the manufacturing of ropes were found on her leggings.
4. Deep wounds were found on her head, wrist, chest, and legs. Cause of Death is Hypothermia.
FINAL JUDGEMENT:
On 1 July 2016 Bossetti was sentenced to life imprisonment. He appealed in the court against the judgement. But in July 2017 the court confirmed his life sentence. In November 2019, Bossetti's defence lawyers asked for a review of the DNA evidence. In March 2021, their request was further not accepted because the quantity of the DNA was very to be analysed.
CURRENT STATUS OF THE CASE:
Bossetti has been sentenced to life imprisonment and will remain incarcerated for the duration of their natural life.
