On 10 November 2025, a car exploded around 06.52 pm near Gate No.1 of the Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi. The blast killed 8–12+ people and injured many others.
CCTV showed the car parked in a parking lot (Sunehri Masjid parking lot) from 3:19 pm & about 6:48 pm; after it moved to a traffic signal opposite Gate 1, the bomb went off around 6:52 pm.
The car was driven by Umar Un Nabi, assistant professor whose identity was confirmed by DNA from a charred leg and a black sports shoe found in the SOC. DNA samples from his mother and brother have been sent to AIIMS to match with the remains from the blast.
The first people on the ground were the Delhi Fire Services – they rushed with seven fire‑engines to the site, followed by Delhi Police and called in the bomb‑disposal and forensic teams.
Forensic Details
The car was packed with roughly 30‑40 kg of ammonium nitrate mixed with triacetone triperoxide (TATP) and a splash of fuel oil (and transformer oil) to boost the blast .Tests also found thin wiring, a small battery‑powered timer and a manual switch, which the investigators think Umar used to fire the device .
Chemicals – Ammonium Nitrate + TATP(high‑sensitivity detonator)+ fuel/transformer oil for extra energy.
Quantity – about 30‑40 kg of the ammonium nitrate‑based mix.
Construction – IED assembled with a detonator, battery, and wiring with a simple manual switch.
Evidence of assembly – forensic teams recovered wire fragments and battery remnants from the wreckage, confirming the bomb was built inside the vehicle.
The combination created a massive, shrapnel‑free blast that was felt underground and scattered debris over a 50‑metre radius.
The incident is being treated as a terror attack. There are suspected links to a “white-collar” terror module, possibly connected to Jaish-e-Mohammed.
Keywords
ANFO – Ammonium‑nitrate + fuel oil; a cheap, high‑explosive mix often used in mining and sometimes in homemade bombs.
TATP – Triacetone triperoxide; a volatile, high‑sensitivity peroxide detonator that’s easy to make but extremely unstable.
May the hearts of the victims find peace, and may we all find the strength to heal and stand together. 🌿
