CASE STUDY: BENGALURU SURGEON ARRESTED FOR MURDERING DOCTOR WIFE BY INJECTING ANAESTHETIC DRUG – 2025

BACKGROUND: The recent Bengaluru doctor death case involves Dr.Mahendra Reddy, a general surgeon , who was arrested for the murder of his wife (victim) Dr. Kruthika M Reddy , a Dermatologist. Mahendra allegedly killed her by administering a lethal overdose of the anaesthetic drug Propofol under the guise of treatment, making her death initially appear natural death. The case took a decisive turn six months later when FSL found traces of anaesthesia in her body.

The couple married in May 2025. Less than a year later, in April 2025, Kruthika fel ill at her father’s home in marathahalli. Mahendra visited her under the pretext of providing medical care for “Gastric Discomfort” and administered intravenous injections containing Propofol over two days . On April 2024, she was found unresponsive and declared brought dead nearby hospital.

FORENSIC FOUNDINGS
Meticulous investigations by the Scene of crime officer(SOCO) and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams based on the complaint filed by family members helped the police zero in on the accused, identified as Mahendra Reddy.

The SOCO visited the house and recovered evidence, including a cannula set, an injection tube, and other medical items. These items were handed over to investigators for forensic analysis. The viscera samples were collected and sent to the FSL to determine the case of death. The FSL report later confirmed the presence of Propofol, a powerful anaesthetic drug, in the victim’s organ, indicating the criminal act.

PROPOFOL- It is active component of an intravenous anaesthetic formulation used for induction and maintenance of general anaesthesia. When given in high does it can cause high blood pressure, it can depress or even stop breathing.

ARREST
Mahendra was arrested on October 14,2025, in Manipal. Forensic analysis of his phone revealed he had sent a message via a digital payment apps note section to a lover and several women shortly after the crime, stating: ‘I Killed my wife for you’.
