Nine months later, her body was discovered which was buried in a shallow grave in dense woodland. The case became notable for the forensic techniques used, particularly fingerprint analysis, which played a critical role in solving the crime.

November 26, 2000 - The date Leanne Tiernan was reported missing.

 5) Investigation Date and Time:
November 26, 2000, onwards - The investigation started immediately after Leanne was reported missing and continued intensively until her body was found and the perpetrator was caught.

 6) Investigation Officer:
Detective Chief Superintendent Chris Gregg was the investigation officer who led the investigation.

 7) List of Evidence Found at the Crime Scene:
(i) Leanne Tiernan’s Body - Discovered buried in a shallow grave.
(ii) Plastic Cable Ties - Found around the victim's wrists, used to restrain her.
(iii) Headband with Dog Hair- Found on the victim, which later linked the suspect's home.
(iv) Green Plastic Bag - Used to cover the victim's head.
(v) Fingerprints - Found on the plastic bag and inside the suspect's home.
(vi) DNA Evidence- Recovered from the suspect’s home and the victim’s body.

8) Conclusion:
The case was solved through meticulous forensic work, particularly the use of fingerprint and DNA analysis. The plastic bag used to suffocate Leanne was matched to bags in the suspect's home, with fingerprints on the bag linking the suspect directly to the crime. The investigation also found dog hair on the victim’s body, matching the suspect's pet, further solidifying the case.

 9) Medicolegal Aspects:
The forensic evidence, including the fingerprints and DNA, was crucial in linking the suspect to the crime, leading to a conviction. The presence of specific fibers, dog hair, and other trace evidence played a significant role in corroborating the forensic findings and ensuring the case's successful prosecution.

10) Autopsy Findings:
(i) Cause of Death: Suffocation due to plastic bag obstruction.
(ii) Signs of Restraint: Marks on wrists consistent with the use of cable ties.
(iii) Post-Mortem Interval: Estimated time of death matched the timeline of her disappearance.

11) Final Judgement:
John Taylor, a local man with no previous criminal record, was convicted of Leanne Tiernan’s murder in July 2002. He was sentenced to two life terms, with a recommendation that he should never be released.

 12) Current Status of the Case:
John Taylor remains incarcerated, serving his life sentence without the possibility of parole. The case is closed, with no ongoing investigations.
